Mike wearing his hospital grub when Miranda was born on friday night.
Miranda Rae Mckiddy has arrived!! She arrived on January 2, 2009 at 6:29 p.m. She weighed 1lb 6oz. She was born at 23weeks and 6days. She was born via C-section. She is currently in NICU. She is intubated and has UAC and UVC(line in her umbilical cord that provides nutrients and receives meds through). Miranda has been on room air when on the vent, she has not need much O2 at this time. She has all ten little toes and fingers. She has long legs.(she obviously did not receive this from her parents) She is ruddy in color and has some bruises. She is currently under bili lights to help break down her biliruebin. The doctors say she is doing as good as can be excepted for her condition and size. Miranda is having some blood pressure problems. She has been having low blood pressures. She is on Dopamine dip. Later today they said her blood pressure is doing better and they are going to start taking her off the Dopamine drip. Miranda received Surfactant shortly after birth to help develop her lungs. Miranda received her first blood transfusion on 1/3/09 before she was 24hours old. She is doing fine after her transfusion.
Day 2- Miranda is now 24hours old. Yeah!!!! Each day is a milestone for us. She is still having some blood pressure issues today because they are still trying to take her off the Dopamine drip. They have put aquaphor on her skin to help Miranda hold her body temperature which is helping her maintain her temperature. Her blood gases are still a little low but Doctors say she has been holding steady with the blood gases. Today around 4:30p.m. they placed Miranda on a Oscillator(which helps her to breath). She is not currently sedated at this time but they may have to her sedate her at a later time if she starts fighting the Oscillator. Her blood gases are better now. In fact when we were up there around 1730 the blood gas results were good and they are changing the setting on the Oscillator. A cardiologist will be in later tonight to check on Miranda and do a echo cardiogram. They are checking to see if the Patent Ductus arterious (PDA) is closed. If it is not closed they are going to try medicine to close it. If that does not work they will do surgery, but we will cross that bridge when it comes. They are also going to do a Ultrasound of her head tonight to see if she has any bleeding, which they say is not uncommon for a baby the size of Miranda. The nurses say that there is no reason to believe at this time that she has a bleed because she is not showing any sign or symptoms at this time it is just a precaution. If there is no bleed they will do another Ultrasound again at day 7. Miranda is receiving TPN and Lipids(which is food for her, she is receiving it through one of her lines). The nurse said they will start giving her breast milk in a few days through a tube which is in her mouth. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Audrey had a huge milestone today, she got to touch Miranda today. Audrey was very excited. Michael is a little nervous to touch her at this time.

I love you Miranda. Keep staying stong and fighting you have great parents who love you so much. You are their angel. -Love Aunt Erica

ReplyDeleteI am a friend of Jill Mady. I gave birth to 23 week twins last year (August 2007) I was only able to spend 1 month and 1 day with my son, Logan, before God called him home. My daughter, Olivia, was in the NICU for 105 days before coming home. She is now over a year old and is a very happy, healthy little girl. Please let me know if you need anything. There are not that many people who understand how difficult it is. Feel free to visit my blog at www.oliviaandlogan.blogspot.com. God bless!
ReplyDeleteI know Miranda is a fighter (Like Aunt Nicole). I am praying for all of you as you go through this journey.
ReplyDeleteI am the one who is sending mail to Nicole, so if you need anything sent, like pictures, you could email them to me and I will print them.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
